TAXING LANDLORDS FOR VACANCIES
In an effort to solve the city’s housing and affordability crisis, Los Angeles City Councilman Mike Bonin offers a solution: taxing landlords who keep habitable housing units empty. Should the proposal go forward, the city would become the latest to consider such a penalty, following passage of similar measures in places like Vancouver, Paris and Oakland, California.
